It’s been written about lately – a ridiculous notion of Botox Wars! There’s no need for war people! Do we need Botox wars in our world today? No. It is so simple, talk to your provider about whether it is right for you, whether it’s a nurse, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or doctor who specializes in doing Dermal Filler and Neuro Modulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau). What you want in an injector is someone who does lots and lots of these procedures. Not someone, even a doctor who doesn’t specialize in Aesthetic Medicine. I have been injecting since the late 90’s when all we had was bovine collagen (from cattle) you had to be skin tested to make sure you weren’t allergic. On the topic of Botox War – there are more than enough wrinkles to go around. We are all aging from the minute we are born. Again, there is no need for war.
Patients – do your homework. There are now plenty of fantastic doctors, nurses and PA’s to chose from in every city. Find someone who you feel comfortable with and who reflects your personal beauty philosophy and goals. Discuss your concerns and be willing to listen to them. They are the expert. You have one face and one body so please when it comes to aesthetic medicine, parties and coupons should not be part of your equation! The word Cheap and Discount isn’t your friend! My advice for friends and family is to create a checklist to help make a good decision.
- What is your Goal?
- What is your beauty philosophy?
- What is your budget?
- What is your timeframe?
- Don’t panic you don’t look as old as you think you do
- Age is a beautiful and sexy look – Own it with grace!
- Spend time and money to do this right
- Don’t over-do things – it’s a work in progress
Know the law of Ying and Yang – if you tweak one area another area must compensate. Discuss this with your provider. You may like the compensated outcome less than what you intended to fix in the first place. Also, there is the math of the beautiful face, your provider should know it.
Know your toxin:
Now this is just damn good advice for life! Whether it be Botox, Dysport, Xeomin or Jeuveau there is one or more that works best for you. They all work slightly differently. And they can work differently in different parts of the face. Again, this is a discussion with a knowledgeable and experienced practitioner.
The company websites are a great resource for answers. These are pharmaceuticals and they must disclose all data. They will answer your questions. Don’t rely on magazines and blogs to update this information for you. Go to the source.
Talk to friends who you respect and think look good. The bottom line is we have more options now than our parents ever dreamed of to stay youthful physically and emotionally. We’re lucky! This gift of technology requires us to due diligence and be smart. All the products on the market in the U.S. are vetted and approved. They’ve gone through rigorous testing. They may all work for you at different times throughout your process. The most important choice you can make is to find an experienced practitioner who you can talk to and whom has done a lot of these procedures. Take your time and LOVE NOT WAR!
